Olympic swimmer - Amy Smith
On Thursday, Amy Smith, an Olympic swimmer as part of Team GB for ten years, came to visit Wood End Primary School. After leading a sponsored event with children doing a range of fitness activities, Amy talked about her swimming career. The children were surprised to hear that Amy was scared of the water when she first began lessons at the age of 7. She had to overcome her fears to even get into the pool. Her journey to the 2012 Olympics was full of highs and lows, showing our children that perseverance is the key to success. Amy Smith proudly showed us her silver and gold medals from the World and European championships. I am sure that our children were inspired by her talk and all made a pledge to Amy to try something new and keep at it even when it feels difficult. I would like to thank Amy Smith for her inspirational assembly and a fitness filled afternoon with our children.
